About The Mayor’s Race
For over a decade, our island has elected a cherished animal to be our honorary mayor during this light-hearted community fundraiser for the Orcas Island Children’s House. The Orcas Island Children’s House has served island families and their children with joy and a commitment to playful learning since 1969. We believe that what happens early in life matters and provide a nurturing and loving environment for children up to age five. We aim to cultivate Wonder and Discovery in the hearts and minds of our young children and believe these dispositions build a foundation for learning that lasts a lifetime. The Orcas Island Children’s House is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Fundraisers like the Mayor’s Race help us keep tuition affordable for all families. (Due to the Covid pandemic, this might be our only fundraiser this year.) This is more important than ever as families face great uncertainty and financial hardships ahead. Every vote helps us keep tuition affordable for all families on the island.
Your votes matter- a vote for mayor is a vote for children and the future!
Usually the Eastsound Mayor’s Race is a physically social affair, with candidates pressing paw, hoof, and fur at parades, farmer’s markets and strolls about town and farm. But, sadly, due to the strange circumstances we find ourselves in this Covid-19 world, these types of activities are not only prohibited, but also not prudent. In order to keep our mayoral candidates and constituents safe and healthy, this year the entire mayoral race will be online! The race will be held from June 4th through July 4th , entirely online! During the race, campaign managers will use their social media prowess to drum up support and drive supporters to their campaign pages to vote for their candidate. All voting ends at noon on July 4th . The candidate with the most votes takes home the key to the city! A little twist to this race from years past: SuperDelegates. Just like our mainland brethren, we have adopted the concept of SuperDelegates. However, our SuperDelegates must vote in a very controlled manner.
Vote Early, Vote Often!
